5 THINGS ABOUT HARDWOOD FLOORS YOU MAY NOT KNOW

October 12, 2017

Hardwood flooring is one of the most beautiful and natural surfacing materials available to designers and architects alike. The stunning, natural look can change any room and make a big impact on your design. Here are a few things you may not know about hardwood flooring:

  1. Biodegradable. The approximate chemical composition of wood is 50% Carbon, 42% Oxygen, 6% Hydrogen, 1% Nitrogen, and 1% other elements. Different types of wood will have some variance of this composition.
  2. Green. Green Flooring Hardwood is one of the most renewable resources available. When choosing a hardwood, selecting one that is harvested and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ensures managed forest harvesting practices. In addition, hardwood improves the quality of air indoors.
  3. Profitable. Hardwoods improve the selling rate and value of a home more than any other finishes. In fact, data collected by the National Association of Realtors shows that the majority of shoppers looking to buy a home were willing to pay more money for a home with hardwood floors, especially those under the age of 55.
  4. Common. Since 82% of realtors believe that hardwood floors help sell homes faster, it’s no wonder many homeowners are making the switch from carpet to wood. In fact, each person in the United States uses about 74 cubic feet of wood each year to upgrade the look of their home.
  5. Customizable. With varying solidity of different species of hardwood from Sapele to Teak, consumers have options to choose different durability and densities to suit their needs and lifestyle.
