8 Common Misconceptions about Floor Tiles

While tiles of many materials can be used in a variety of ways, you will most commonly see them used as flooring. Homeowners, designers, and contractors alike prefer tile because it is easy to clean and maintain, and can easily tie the look of a room together. However, there are a few misconceptions about floor tile that may forebode a potential buyer from purchasing tile as their flooring. Here are some things you need to know about tile before you make a purchase :

1) Tile materials will vary in price.

Marble, porcelain, ceramic, depending on the durability and longevity of a material, the pricing will fluctuate. When looking for which tile material to use, you should find one that has the features you want but is still within your price range.

2) Tile doesn’t have to be boring.

There are those who think that tiles come in limited styles with little to no variance. However, there endless amounts patterns and styles available to suit different tastes. Some companies, like Audrey Lane, will let you customize your tile patterns and colors so you can get the exact tile you want.

3) Tile is durable.

Tiles are not as delicate as many believe. Even porcelain and ceramic tiles are made using hardened and compacted clay that make them last through wear and tear. Since some tiles are stronger than others, it is important to research which materials will work best based on where you want to place your tile flooring.

4) Tile is lavish.

Tiles are aesthetically appealing and can make even the smallest of rooms look grander. Using tile as a decoration itself can easily give a room an added touch of luxury.

5) Tile is versatile.

Tiles are extremely handy because you can use different coatings. Coated tile can make your floors waterproof, slip-resistant, robust and durable which gives them an advantage over other flooring materials.

6) Ease of use.

Most people avoid tiles since they get dirty easily. However, the opposite is true. Tiles are incredibly easy to clean and rarely stain.

7) You can use tile virtually anywhere.

Some tile material, such as ceramic, is highly resistant to heat which negates the misconception that tile is weak under stress. It also proves that tile can be placed in a variety of locations, including outside or unique places like steam rooms.

8) Scratch resistance.

The major complaint when it comes to tiles is that they scratch easily since they are weak. However, tiles have a high abrasion resistance and do not easily get damaged because of their coating. Again, it is important to research which tile is the most durable, especially if you believe it may undergo a lot of traffic.
