IIDA Carolinas Chapter hosts an annual awards event called DesignWorks. Bonitz submitted and won in the Flooring Installation category.
Bonitz was excited to partner with designers at LS3P and Vision Contracting to provide a superior flooring solution for the 2 Hannover Square Lobby Renovation job, located on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, NC. Situated within the prominent BBT office building, this is a 2-story lobby space, totaling just over 8,000 SF.
The existing lobby flooring was structurally sound, but aesthetically outdated and lacked the visual interest and sophistication that newer, competing buildings offer. Through Bonitz working closely with the design firm to assist in their specification, one of Trinity Surface’s thin gauged panel tile was selected to minimize transition issues and allow installation directly over the existing flamed granite flooring. This highly traveled building lobby presented a few challenges when considering the installation logistics. Hundreds of people passing through the lobby daily, necessary downtime, noise and minimizing tenant disturbance were all high priorities as we coordinated this project installation.
Working during off-hours and around tenant traffic patterns were just small inconveniences to accomplish this prominent installation. The project was completed in multiple phases, over an 8-week time period, to accommodate the owner and tenant needs. This was a highly technical installation with gauged panel sizes as large as 60” x 30”, requiring 100% mortar coverage. Our installation crews utilized all of the latest installation techniques, tools, and materials to achieve an installation that can be considered one with the existing flooring substrate. Ultimately, we were very pleased to surpass expectations of the GC, design team, and building owner to provide a flooring installation that was not only successful by technical definition but significantly contributed to the overall improvement of how building users experience this newly renovated interior.
