Commercial Interior Design Trends for 2021

January 6, 2021

Leading the way into a new year, the Trinity Surfaces team put their heads together to create a forecast for the year ahead. The forecast features predictions and trends for commercial interior design, in 2021 and beyond. Based on our innovative adaptations in 2020, we are eager for these theories to be put to the test! And, with the commercial segment dominating the interior design world, these trends might see a bit more longevity than those we’ve seen in years past.

Research paints us a picture of looking back at history to get a glimpse of what may lie ahead. From making corporate offices feel more like home to striving for more energetic, lively social spaces- could the saying “history repeats itself” come to life in these early 2020s? Of course, time will tell, but it’s a Trinity Surfaces tradition to lay out some predictions each new year.

Fortunately, the brands we work with are chock full of on-trend products for the upcoming year. As a company and as a community, the Trinity Surfaces team continually strives to spark relationships with longtime industry leaders as well as newbies we see promise with. It is from both ends of the industry spectrum that we are able to pull together such accurate and quality results.

Now, let’s get to the good stuff! Read on to discover insider tips we’re sharing about commercial flooring in 2021.

Health concerns rise

In 2021, we guarantee that other priorities will pale in comparison to health and safety. These focal points will be prominent across all industries, but play a particularly interesting role in commercial interior design. There are a few ways that interior designers can shop smarter to meet the demand for improved health and safety. Take a look.

Wall tile grows in popularity

There is a growing school of thought within the Trinity Surfaces team that a postmodern-esque era could be right around the corner. Shedding the current popular minimalistic approach, this theory poses an idea from Robert Venturi: “less is a bore.”  With that prediction in tow, wall tiles will see an even bigger launch into the limelight than we already anticipated. Here are some products that are sure to gain some extra traction over the next 365 days.

Office design from the source

Employees are the lifeblood of any great brand. In 2021 and beyond, the interior designers who help create workspaces will give employees the attention they deserve by consulting with them first. Every company’s needs will be different as far as the design of their co-working space goes. So, interiors designers will start utilizing a process developed by Elkus Manfredi. It is called co-creation, and the goal is to listen to the most important people within an office space, from the CEO to the receptionist. Finding out what each team member needs in a space to maximize their productivity is the foundation for a successful workplace. The following products will undoubtedly rise to the challenge.

Every little thing will be alright

It would be easy to assume that the worldwide slowdown from 2020 will negatively affect commercial interior design. Just like every industry on the planet, there have been and will be some changes. However, we are confident as ever because researchers suggest that the industry “is expected to maintain a relatively optimistic growth.”
